Exposure Triangle Trainer

Understanding the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO is one of the most important—and often most challenging—parts of learning photography. The Exposure Triangle Trainer is an interactive learning tool designed to help photography students practice whole-stop settings, equivalent exposures, and the creative effects of changing camera controls.

Instead of only memorizing numbers, students can adjust the camera settings and immediately see how each change affects exposure, depth of field, motion, and image noise.

Understanding Equivalent Exposures

An equivalent exposure records the same overall amount of light using a different combination of camera settings.

For example, using a faster shutter speed reduces the amount of light reaching the camera sensor. To maintain the same exposure, you could open the aperture, increase ISO, or use a combination of both.

The brightness may remain the same, but the photograph could have a different depth of field, amount of motion blur, or level of image noise. Learning to manage these trade-offs is an essential step toward controlling a camera creatively.
